Chief Inspector

The Person

We are looking for a person whom has a good engineering background, must be hands on and conversant with the running of CMM inspection, technically minded, a team player. Able to manage a team of 4 inspectors, set tasks or priorities to guarantee through put is achieved. Must be able communicate with subordinates and superiors alike. Be customer facing on technical issues. Must be self-motivated and professional in approach with a must do/can do attitude.

The Role

To oversee the implementation of the day to day Inspection activities of the inspection department within a high precision aerospace company. Achieving targets, objectives as set by the quality manager and production team. To develop a smooth running and efficient section.

Key Duties:
  • Understand the requirements of production, assign staff/resources to achieve the customer delivery promises
  • Attend cross functional meetings, taking ownership of commitments and efficiently flowing the requirements down to the inspection team
  • Responsible for inspecting incoming and outgoing product/materials
  • Perform root cause analysis, identify problems and put in place corrective actions
  • Manage in process inspection including timely first off and final inspections
  • Understand manual inspection techniques and where required be hands on
  • CMM inspection, have a good understanding of the process, be able to talk through set ups and inspection techniques with customer and subordinates
  • Good understanding of F.A.I.R.’s and auditing activities
  • Train/develop both new and existing staff and monitor to confirm progress
  • Release signatory for quality sign off
  • Knowledge of compliance to ISO9001 and AS9100 quality standards
  • Other duties as required

Labourer

The Person

We are looking for a person whom has an interest in engineering. Must be a team player. Must have good communication skills and be willing to learn. Must be self-motivated and professional in approach with a can-do attitude.

The Role

To assist with Achieving targets, objectives as set by the Operations Manager. To help and assist with the smooth running of allocated section/s.

Key Duties:
  • Take direction from the Section Manager for daily duties.
  • General cleaning duties within a busy factory environment.
  • Clearing out machines, when change of material being cut.
  • Change swarf bins twice daily.
  • Placing next job by machines for operators.
  • At all tines comply with company polices and instructions.
  • Contribute to improving the business, protecting the company by putting forward new ideas and implementing change.
  • Fork lift licence is required but not essential.
  • Driving licence is required.

Turning Section Manager

A trusted and well-respected engineering business looking for an experienced Turning Section Manager. The business is undergoing a period of significant growth coupled with an overseas partnership to offer additional capacity and economic benefits. Must be positive, pro-active and hands on.

The ideal candidate would have a background in engineering with managerial experience.

Key Duties

  • Motivate, coach and inspire section team, whilst ensuring we produce a quality product on time, every time
  • Promote an attitude of continuous improvement, ensuring everyone understands and is actively involved in the journey
  • Actively engage your team in the safety-first culture, managing people effectively through robust leadership skills and compliance with internal policies and procedures
  • Challenge the organisation to learn and develop new methods and skills whether related to the material technology, engineering or machining capabilities available
  • Resolve ongoing and arising production issues
  • Understand Production requirements from the MRP system and generated documentation
  • Complete manufacturing operations to achieve on time delivery

CNC Miller/Setter Operator

We are an established and successful aerospace business based in Harlow, Essex with great ambition and a team of enthusiastic people whom are all dedicated to moving the business forward. Smith’s manufactures large metallic components for the Aerospace industry. Our main customers are SAFRAN, Rolls Royce & Bombardier with other strategic partners.

We are looking for a person who can work under their own initiative and understands the importance of tractability and paperwork with the following skills;

  • Able to work within time frames.
  • Follows procedures.
  • Maintains a safe working environment.
  • Conversant in reading engineering drawings.
  • Conversant with programming and understanding of programmers.
  • CNC experience, 3 to 5 axis machining.
  • Able to work to tight tolerances.
  • Understand Inspection technique’s and Inspection methods, use of manual Inspection equipment i.e. Micrometers, internal bore micrometers, depth micrometers, verniers…

Main duties include but are not limited to small to medium batch work and some one offs.
